Parkersburg City Council to consider pool rate increases

PARKERSBURG – Members of Parkersburg City Council will vote on adding a training officer to the Fire Department, setting increased municipal pool rates for the summer and approving pay raises included in the upcoming budget when they meet Tuesday.

The first regular meeting of May is being held a week earlier than usual since West Virginia’s primary election is slated for May 12.

The first two ordinances would establish the position of training officer in the Fire Department and the pay for the job.

According to a job summary included with the agenda, the training officer would report directly to the fire chief and be responsible for managing and delivering emergency response training to members of the department, as well as outside agencies and members of the community, in addition to directly engaging in firefighting and emergency care. The salary range for the job is between $36,504 and $52,565.76.

The proposed pool rates are $6 for kids age 3-17, seniors 55 and older and veterans and $8 for other adults. If the ordinance is approved, season passes for residents would be $90 for children 3-17, seniors 55 and older and veterans and $110 for other adults. There would be an additional $15 charge for non-residents.

Passes for a family of up to four would be $215 for residents and $240 for non-residents, with an additional charge of $40 for each additional member for residents and $65 for non-residents.

Private rentals at the City and Southwood Park pools, including the splash pad and water slide, would range from $305 to $625 depending on the duration (two or three hours) and whether concessions were included.

Those are increases from the rates set in 2019, according to documents with the agenda that cite a 42% increase in the annual cost of the pool management contract since that time.

The salary ordinance reflects the 4.2% cost-of-living adjustment approved for the 2026-27 fiscal year beginning July 1 and addresses jobs like police officers, firefighters and part-time positions that cannot be changed administratively.

Starting at $2.99/week.
