* “We couldn’t do what we do for our community without our nursing staff,” said Martha Dawson, vice president of quality and patient safety, chief quality officer and interim chief nursing officer for WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center. Dawson was speaking during a celebration of Camden Clark’s nurses during National Nurses Week. “Nurse’s Week is an opportunity for us to celebrate them as a whole. This celebration is to really honor the nurses who have been recognized by their peers and showing excellence in the care they provide to their patients,” she added. There are approximately 900 nurses in the Camden Clark system alone. And, while a few were singled out for special honors during the ceremony, they all truly do heroic work for the rest of us. “Each of you live out our mission of meeting the health care needs of our community for a lifetime in the work you do. Whether you are at the bedside, in leadership, education or in support rolls,” Dawson told the group gathered last week, “our standards of behavior, compassion, communication, commitment, competence are not just words, they are reflected in the way you care for patients and families during their most vulnerable moments.” Thank goodness there are so many willing (and able) to take on such a heavy responsibility.
* Donors supported Mid-Ohio Valley nonprofits last week with at least $550,000 in financial contributions, in addition to volunteering and working to raise awareness, as part of the annual Give Local MOV event. “Thank you to everyone who supported Give Local MOV on Tuesday, May 5th! Your support helped us celebrate the spirit of giving in our region and the extraordinary work of our local nonprofits,” the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, which presented the effort, wrote on its web site. Thank you to all those who gave and supported 60 organizations that do so much for our region.
