Hello. I am Maurita the Crochet Lady. This month I wrote a pattern for newborn sized slippers and included an optional star that can be sewn onto them.
The supplies include: soft worsted weight yarn, hook size H-5.0mm hook and a finishing or tapestry needle for sewing.
STITCHES: CH= chain, SL ST= slip stitch, SC= single crochet, BEG-DC= beginning double crochet, DC INC= double crochet increase, DC DEC= double crochet decrease, 6ST DC DEC= 6stitch double crochet decrease.
NOTES: 1: ( … ) means to work stitches inside the marks in stitch or space listed. 2: After working a large decrease, ch1 is worked to close the gap. 3: If you would like the foot area to be deeper for a larger foot, repeat Rnd3.
SLIPPERS: starting at sole: RING: ch4, SL ST to form ring. RND1: BEG DC, 11DC in ring, join. RND2: BEG DC, DC in same st, DC INC, 3SC, 2DC INC, 3SC, DC INC, DC INC in same st as beg-dc, join. RND3: BEG DC, DC in each stitch around. RND4: 10SC, 6ST DC DEC, CH1, 10SC, join. RND5: 8SC, DC DEC, DC between 3rd and 4th section of “6st dc dec”, DC DEC, 8SC, join. RND 6-9: BEG DC, DC around, join. Fasten off leaving yarn tail to hide inside worked stitches.

STAR DECORATION (optional): RING: CH4, join with SL ST to form ring. RND1: 10SC in ring, join. POINTS: (CH5, skip 2chains, 2SC, DC, skip 1sc of Rnd1, SL ST into next ST of Rnd1), repeat from ( to ) 4times to complete 5points. Leaving a tail for sewing, FASTEN OFF and sew into place. I recommend using scrap yarn to loosely tie the star into place before sewing, then remove the extra ties once seeing is completed.
I hope you enjoy making these little newborn slippers. They actually look cute on stuffed animals also. Until next time, happy crocheting.
