* Each year, the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates coordinate Give Local MOV. This year’s event will be Tuesday, and it is an outstanding opportunity to support local nonprofits with the possibility of matches and other prizes to magnify the donation. Representatives of nonprofits describe the event as providing vital funding that contributes a large portion of the support they rely upon to serve the community. And those who choose to donate on Give Local MOV day will, indeed, know they are helping their own community, as all the money stays right here. Last year, a record-breaking $531,385 was raised, with the help of 1,351 donors, supporting 67 nonprofits. How wonderful it might be to shatter that record, too. Given the generous nature of those in the Mid-Ohio Valley who will no doubt jump at the chance to support those who do so much to support the rest of us, there is every reason to believe it is possible.

* A coordinated effort that included a volunteer from New Martinsville has ensured a working generator will be on site at Camp Kootaga, after the old one had deteriorated to the point of being nonfunctional. As the Kootaga Foundation expands the use of the former Boy Scout camp, such a protection against power outages is essential. “In the past, when we’ve had some of the major storms come through, and we did not have a generator, we lost a lot of food in the coolers,” said Andy Shaffer, vice president of operations for Camp Kootaga. “And it sort of delayed or pushed back our operations at the time.” Thank you, to those who made the donation happen.

Starting at $2.99/week.
